Now more than ever, engaging communities in science is critical for researchers and institutions to build trust and enhance Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in society
The SciCultureD project invites researchers of the Science in the City festival to join an innovative and fun training experience to enhance sci-comm skills and playfully plan engagement activities in preparation of the festival!
This role-playing workshop will challenge you in rethinking how to design effective and inclusive public engagement activities placing people at the centre. Participants will play the SciCultureD ‘Course Kit’, a design-thinking tool to plan creative and multi-disciplinary education modules for social impact. In a fictional world challenged by a common quest, participants will play the role of different characters and collaboratively complete four missions, while critically engaging dialogue and reflecting on JEDI values. At the end, they will co-design a set of Public Engagement activities including the JEDI values that will solve the quest. This workshop is inspired by the EU-funded projects JUSTNature (H2020) and SciCultureD (Erasmus+) and will be run by the Department of Mathematics & Science Education, Faculty of Education.
What will you learn?
– How to rethink public engagement activities from different, new perspectives.
– How use design thinking processes, creativity & other arts in public engagement.
– How to embed JEDI value in the design phase.
