Stand by the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology
Embark on a galatic linguistic journey. Did you know that there are over 7,000 spoken languages in the world but only about 4,000 of them have a written form and close to half of them are endangered? Or that there are at least 200 different sign languages including Lingwa tas-Sinjali Maltija (LSM), the Maltese sign language?
The study of linguistics explores the great diversity and complexity of human language in its many forms. The study of language technology is about making computers understand and talk to us using our own languages and includes topics like automatic translation, AI chatbots, and speech-to-text.
Find out about linguistic diversity. Come and try out the many language-related games, an AI application that describes your face, and speak to experts in different fields of linguistics who can answer your questions, including about both linguistics as a university degree, and our new degree in language technology and AI.
