Who is a JEDI?
JEDIs are the heart and soul of our festival – passionate individuals who are enthusiastic, dedicated, and helpful. If you have a fascination for event and festival management, and an interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), we would love to have you on board! Most importantly, you should be available during the festival on the 27th and 28th of September.
What will JEDIs do?
As a JEDI, you will play a crucial role in bringing the festival to life. This year, we have even more opportunities for you to make a difference! You can get involved in various tasks, such as:
- SOCIAL MEDIA, PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY: We are seeking aspiring, novice, and professional photographers/videographers, media and communication students/recent graduates and anyone else who is interested in capturing the essence and excitement of the Science in the City Festival. Volunteers in this role must have their own access to a camera (phone cameras are ok, but DSLRs are preferred).
- Tasks include:
- Taking and editing photos/videos of festival-goers, participating researchers and organisations, and core team members.
- Planning and posting content for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
- INTERACTIVE EXPERIMENTS AND SCIENTIST SUPPORT: Are you knowledgeable about robots, AI, chemical formulas, renewable energy, nutrition, physics, sports or other science topics? Do you enjoy hands-on experiments and want to be the bridge between our scientists and citizens? Volunteers in this role will support researchers, community organisations, and NGOs in making science accessible to all.Tasks include:
- Communicating with participating researchers and organisations about their needs on the day(s) of the festival.
- Helping with interactive STEAM experiments at various stands set up around Triton fountain and/or supporting performers at Sala San Duminku on the 27–28th September.
- VISITOR EXPERIENCE/USHER AND EVALUATION: A festival this big can only be successful if people enjoy their experience and want to keep coming back year after year. We are seeking friendly, kind, and enthusiastic volunteers who will be able to answer any questions that visitors may have, provide directions between the street and performance festival, and gather feedback that will shape the future of Science in the City.Tasks include:
- Chatting with festival visitors and providing information about what is happening at the festival to ensure that everyone is enjoying themselves.
- Conducting experience surveys using flyers, tablets and other approaches provided for the event.
There's a role and task suitable for everybody!
If you have your own creative ideas or wish to contribute in a unique way, we are more than open to your suggestions.
