“You’re about to make history. The FAST Project team is organizing the country’s first ever bioblitz, and anyone who’s interested in safeguarding local biodiversity can participate!
But wait. What’s a bioblitz you ask?
Well, a bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.
Essentially, it’s a collaborative effort aiming to get a snapshot of an area’s biodiversity.
And what species will we be identifying then?
Here’s where it gets really interesting. As a citizen scientist, you’ll be helping to spot a number of aliens from around the Buskett Natura 2000 site.
Yes, you read that correctly. Aliens! Specifically, a number of alien invasive plant species which have already spread throughout the area, or have the potential to do so in the future. In this way, your observations will be used to build a distribution map showing the locations of these potentially dangerous aliens! In turn, the finalised map can be used for subsequent study and removal efforts!
So, if you have a keen eye and a passion for the natural environment, come take part in the FAST Project Bioblitz and make history!
A goodie bag — which includes everything you’ll need throughout the activity, as well as a few other surprises — will also be given to each participant.
