At SEA-EU, we are launching an exciting competition! The first three winning entries will be awarded prizes to Esplora Interactive Science Centre and gift cards redeemable at The Model Shop.
Use this summer break to re-imagine the coastlines of one of the SEA-EU cities – Cádiz (Spain), Western Brittany (Brest, France), Kiel (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Split (Croatia) and Malta (Malta) – and create a 3-D diagram or sculpture of one of these coasts using recyclable materials.
Our surrounding seas present many opportunities, so let us create ways to show how we can still enjoy these coastlines without polluting them!

Further Background for Participants
The European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), is an Alliance of six Universities that share one main feature – they are all located in or around coastlines. The six Universities within this Alliance are found in: Cádiz (Spain), Western Brittany (Brest, France), Kiel (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Split (Croatia) and Malta (Malta).
This Alliance is still very new and the six Universities are working in creating a connected network from which the students within these Universities can benefit from learning experiences that are not offered by just one University but six!
For this year’s Science in the City programme, SEA-EU will be holding several activities including this craft competition in allowing our future generation to contribute to this new form of University which is carving an innovative way of teaching and learning!
For further information, please email [email protected] or visit the competition’s webpage.
Filfla and Comino from a different angle
Malta’s Ocean Ambassador and Director of the International Ocean Institute – Malta Centre at the University of Malta, Prof. Alan Deidun, has been working with the Malta International Airport Foundation on a number of documentaries featuring Filfla and Comino from a different angle.
These documentaries, titled Comino: A Secret Paradise, and Filfla: An Incredible Malta Diving Experience, feature the beauty of the two rocks, both above the waves, and below the waves.
By displaying Malta’s beautiful archipelago and its ecosystems, the footage invites visitors to discover the beauty of Malta and Gozo’s seas. The videos fit within the ‘SEA-EU’ – The European University of The Seas. The SEA-EU alliance aims to increase the level of mutual knowledge and integration between the universities, strengthen the European identity across the alliance, and support European values based on student and staff creativity and engagement.
