Walking Malta
Carlos Cañas gives an overview on walkability, a recent research topic that looks into pedestrian mobility and the use of public space. Then, he explains the participatory nature of his research, where pedestrians like you can greatly contribute to assess perceived walkability and identify what enables and encourage people to walk more in Malta.
The research uses pictures and text from geo-located posts from participants to better understand the underlying relationships between pedestrian experiences and public space. Data are spatially analysed and presented in interactive web maps.
Walking Malta tries to reach beyond the academic world by combining local knowledge and experience from citizens with research skills from university, to assist an influence policymakers and stakeholders towards a more pedestrian friendly Malta, with all the positive impacts that that entails.
